Promote Public Safety
Through collaborative networking with state and national funding sources to put additional officers on the streets to further support a community policing. The community policing concept takes the sole responsibility of safer communities from the law enforcement community to a shared ownership, shared decision making and accountability, as well as sustained commitment from the police and the members of the community. Community policing requires police and citizens to come together as partners in the course of both identifying and effectively addressing safety issues.
- Introduce and seek support of legislation to create a nine member Early Intervention and Rehabilitation Commission to evaluate and make recommendations for the reduction of gang related activity in the community and especially in and around school zones
- Introduce and seek support of legislation which requires the registration of convicted gang members with local law enforcement each year after conviction or their release from custody.
- Introduce and seek support of legislation which increases the sentencing of convicted felons caught with guns to an additional five to ten years.
